Passivation & Derouging
Components & Parts • Stainless Piping Systems & Tanks
SEF has a specially trained staff for derouging and passivation services as well as chemical parts and components cleaning. We use a high quality blend of citric acid chemicals formulated for cleaning, rouge removal and passivation of stainless steel and other metals, which, in most cases, can be rinsed directly to the waste drain and is environment friendly, safe and an effective method of passivating surfaces. The citric acid products are non toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable.
Citric acid passivation has proven to be a vast improvement over the traditional nitric acid formulations. The solution will not allow the iron to precipitate again like nitric acid is known to do. In addition, citric acid does not pose the health and environmental hazards that are present with nitric acid.
SEF is OSHA Compliant
Citric acid is the natural organic acid found in oranges and other citrus fruits. It is Generally Regarded As Safe (GRAS) and is commonly used in many foods and beverages. This means that the citric acid solution is compatible with the environment and can usually be disposed into sanitary sewage systems with minimal waste treatment to meet environmental agency approvals.
By using a citric acid solution for equipment, parts and components derouging and passivation, there is maximum protection by providing:
-
Improved removal of free iron from the surface
-
Faster removal of free iron from the surface
-
Low hazard chemistry
-
Environmentally safe chemistry
-
Lower cost
-
Passivated surfaces that pass all salt spray, immersion and high humidity tests
Field Passivation & Derouging
of Stainless Piping Systems & Tanks
While 304 and 316 series stainless steel is a corrosion resistant material, it can develop rouge, which can range from mild tea staining discoloration to thick, flaky rust and can affect the chemical makeup of your product during the manufacturing process.
By using our citric acid solution and applications, SEF can remove rust from stainless steel.
In-house Passivation & Derouging
of Components & Parts
SEF offers on-site and in-house citric acid passivation of parts and components using a safe and environmentally friendly citric acid to remove the free iron from the surface of stainless steel.
Stainless steel surfaces can be made highly resistant to corrosion if they are properly cleaned and passivated prior to use. Proper cleaning and passivation of surfaces prior to use is essential to achieve maximum resistance to any corrosion.
